Microchipping

Microchips are a permanent and extremely important form of identification for your pet. If your pet becomes lost, they are far more likely to be returned home if they are microchipped. A microchip is very small – about the size of a grain of rice – and is implanted just under the skin, between the shoulder blades at the back of your pet’s neck. A microchip generally lasts a lifetime, cannot fall off, be removed or become impossible to read like a collar or name tag.

This procedure only takes a few seconds and once completed, your pet’s details, and your contact address and phone numbers will always be accessible on a national database. Should your pet stray or become lost, vets, animal shelters and local councils can scan your pet for a microchip and contact you via the database.

If you change your address or telephone number, it is your responsibility to contact the register your pet is listed with and update your contact details. The most common registry in Victoria is Central Animal Records, accessed via www.car.com.au. If you are not sure who your pet is registered with, you can find out through Pet Address at www.petaddress.com.au

We can insert a microchip during a normal veterinary consultation. Please contact us for an appointment or for more information.
